Frequently Ask Questions

Is RV energy storage battery (such as lithium iron phosphate) safe? Will it explode?

At present, mainstream RV energy storage batteries mostly use lithium iron phosphate technology. Compared with traditional ternary lithium batteries, it has extremely high thermal stability, good high temperature resistance, and is extremely difficult to have thermal runaway or combustion. It is currently the safest choice for RV applications.

Do batteries require special maintenance?

Lithium iron phosphate batteries are often referred to as "maintenance-free" batteries. You don't need to add water like lead-acid batteries. It is recommended to regularly check whether the terminals are tight and keep the battery surface clean and dry.

What is the depth of discharge (DoD) of lithium batteries?

Lithium iron phosphate batteries can usually be safely discharged to 80%-100% without damage, which means you can use almost all of the nominal capacity. In comparison, lead-acid batteries can usually only use 50%.

Can I connect lithium batteries in parallel with my existing lead-acid batteries?

Absolutely not. Different types of batteries have different charging voltage curves and internal resistance. Parallel connection will cause the battery packs to charge and discharge each other, which may damage the battery or even cause a fire. When replacing lithium batteries, all old lead-acid batteries must be removed.

Can I use my existing RV charger to charge lithium batteries?

Not necessarily. The old converter/charger may be designed for lead-acid batteries, and its voltage may not be enough to fully charge the lithium battery, or the voltage is too high, causing the BMS to cut off. It is recommended to replace it with a modern converter that supports "LiFePO4" mode.

What is BMS? Why is it important?

BMS is a battery management system. It is the "brain" of the battery, responsible for monitoring voltage, current and temperature, preventing overcharge, overdischarge, short circuit and overheating. For RV users, it is the core component to ensure battery life and safety.
